    When it comes to data stored on your computer, deleting files doesn't actually remove the data. File information is kept in a directory so that the operating system can find it. When you delete a file, all you are doing is removing it from the directory and flagging that part of the drive as being available for new data.

    So, do you mean the data is not deleted when i delete it? It is still in the hard drive? If this is the case then, I must be able to get the data back even after deleting the file, no?

    ya , sure u can get the data back.. but if u fill ur hard disk by any data it'z difficult to get back ..becoz if u erase the file that sector will not be free (just delete the file record from file system table )but if u create any file or copy any huge files that sector may be fill by ur files, u unable to get ur deleted files back .. it'z my point of view ..

    but if u r a windows user there is a tool called CIPHER is used to delete the files permanently,.. if u want to recover the data, there are some softwares available .. so for ur recover needs u can use it..

    You're in luck too because most Windows operating systems have a command line tool called CIPHER ..

    Here's how to use CIPHER:

    1. After closing all windows, open up a command window.

    2. Type the following: cipher /w:/driveletter:/foldername where driveletter and foldername correspond to the drive a location of where your deleted file used to live.

    3. Sit back and enjoy your freedom and privacy while your file is truly permanently deleted!

    Here's an example:

    I have a picture I want permanently deleted which stored on my computer at the following location:

    C:/images/scandalous_picture.jpg

    After deleting this picture and emptying the recycle bin, I would type the following (in a command prompt) to ensure that I can still run for senator

    C:>cipher /w:C:/images

    I can then move on to my life of privacy and carefree surfing!

    Hey the data you deleted by shift+Delete, or from the recycle bin, the data some times will be deleted permanently and most of the times will be stored in temporary folder(especially for shift+ deleted one). Just try this....
    Start--> Run--> type "%temp%".
    Hope you find the latest data deleted. But once you go for disc clean, the data in temp will be lost. I tried this and is working for me.
    Hope this helps you too.
