    i haven't any idea about this trouble but , why don't u use XAMPP ..it has contain necessary packages for a fully functional web server with add-ons ..

    Contains :

    Apache Web Server, MySQL, PHP & PEAR, SQLite, Perl, ProFTPD, phpMyAdmin, OpenSSL, GD, Freetype2, libjpeg, libpng, zlib, Ming, Webalizer, mod_perl.

    So tune ur mind using XAMMP ..

    I rather like to be able to configure php without using any softwares like xampp. That way, i think, i can learn about these softwares nicely. If any problem is there, I can know where is the error. I can install nicely on windows xp. If you know tell me what is new in win 7 that is preventing php form installing?

    Default PHT Text

    PHP, Hyper text Preprocessor is a widely used, general-purpose scripting language that was originally designed for web development to produce dynamic web pages. For this purpose, PHP code is embedded into the HTML source document and interpreted by a web server with a PHP processor module, which generates the web page document.

    Go to the PHP download page and grab the latest non-thread-safe ZIP archive for Windows. As of writing this, the package is called "PHP 5.2.8 Non-thread-safe zip package". Unzip the archive to a folder on your hard disk (I use C:\php5) and create a copy of php.ini-recommended called php.ini. There, add the following configuration setting:

    cgi.force_redirect = 0

    I know what its like to install on win7 I used these instructions:
    How to install PHP on IIS : BillS IIS Blog : The Official Microsoft IIS Site to get through the awkward bloody thing!

    though once its installed I have had no problems and I am able to use IIS along with PHP/MySQL

    I think Its all about administrator privilege problem.Try to run the setup as "Run as administrator" or try to access the security permission and give full access to the files for all the users and run the setup.
