Which is better? Javacript or jQuery?

I have been using javascript for a while. I have recently read about jQuery in w3schools.com. I don't know if as a programmer who wants to learn things in a good way, should i learn jQuery or stick to javascript? Which is a better choice?

In my point of view JavaScript is the best option to select.But a person conscious to learn new things,can practice J query.But it does not compete with javascript yet.i check both.

I feel javaScript is better in the sense it is a good scripting language that is useful in web design as a good substitute for HTML.

I think you should learn jQuery. Javacript is an ovld version and jQuery is the newest one. Why you want to stick with the old one. Learn jQuery, i think you will be able to do a lots of thing that you have never done before...
