What is PageRank?

PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Also, the importance of the page that is casting the vote determines how important the vote itself is. Google calculates a page's importance from the votes cast for it. How important each vote is is taken into account when a page's PageRank is calculated.
PageRank is Google's way of deciding a page's importance. It matters because it is one of the factors that determines a page's ranking in the search results. It isn't the only factor that Google uses to rank pages, but it is an important one.
From here on in, we'll occasionally refer to PageRank as "PR".

Yes, higher the PR, the more google trusts that page and chance to have more rankings.

Thats not always the case. Their is a thing where a whole bunch of people link to a page to get it a good page rank in a proses called "google bombing".

Pagerank is also determined, not only by the importance of sites linking to it, but also the relevance of those sites that the links are coming from. For example, if your site is a real estate site, incoming links from property related websites are valued higher than say a link from an online casino.

Thanks for the info about Pagerank..
I would like to ask you, if we are using autoblogs (all know what autoblog is) is thier any chances of getting PR to autoblogs as in autoblogs there are lots of copied content? Will Copied content gets PR in google or other search engines? For this will Google penalize?

I'm completely agreed with you. High Page rank shows popularity of the website. High Page Rank meas more traffic.

Page ranking is an algorithm used by google to check the value of an website or the value of a page of an website, the page rank is given by considering different if futures.. like the back links, the contents, updations so on..
