PageRank is one of the most important algorithms used by Google to provide relevant search results. There are many cases where pages with low pagerank are displayed on top positions for some popular keywords and vice versa. If some pages has high pagerank there is no guarantee that it will rank higher.

"PageRank" is a trademark of Google, and the PageRank process a PageRank results from a "ballot" among all the other pages on the World Wide Web about how important a page isas been patented.

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B.

hello there, can you please tell me the main use of page rank? is it like the website count (visitor count)? i think microsoft doesn' thave visitor count. is it really useful or not?

The higher the Page Rank, the more trust you will have in terms of google eye and will have the better chance to rank high for certain keywords.

Page rank is important in driving good traffic to the site or blog. To get a good page rank we need good traffic and thus both are reciprocal.

As per my knowledge most of webmaster will suggest to concentrate on traffic instead of page rank. page rank is essential but I personally give less priority then traffic.
