I personally prefer OSCommerce. We are using that a lot

I prefer OS Commerce/Pay pal method if u r a bigner of online sale.
I've heard from a friend that Zencart is pretty decent, you might try and check it yourself - reading doesn't cost and who knows, you might find it suitable for your needs.
CubeCart is also good too.IT is not free on latest versions though but you can download 3.x version for free
Yes, try Amazon, it is one of the biggest inline shops online and it also provides free shipping, so your customers would be very happy to buy from you.
I also suggest you to go for OS commerce, as they have many options and free services.. Good for beginners. If you dont have to use OS then go for Paypal buy now button or amazon shopping cart..
