How to drive traffic into your forum?

I wonder if you have any idea if how can you drive traffic into your newly created forum? . What type of promotions are you going to make and what type of promotions is effective? .

Firstly, on starting of any forum there will be requirement of paid posts and threads. So, the forum will come in search and after that period of 1-2 months there will be no requirement of paid traffic. Then the forum will be searched in search engines and you will get traffic automatically. Other options of promotion like adwords will not work here.

Working with your forum to drag more traffic usually depends on what niche your forum are and maybe you could add freebies section that might attract more visitor to come .

Webmasters should time and again advertise their forums in other reputed webmaster forums and this I think would increase the traffic considerably.

Basically what i believe that the forum niche must be such that it is known to everyone and your forum must have quality threads and the moderation at the posts in the forum.
And to get the popularity(traffic) you must introduce contests say referral or posting for dragging the traffic to your forums

Yes. Niche plays a vital role in the traffic building process. Niches like health, soccer, insurance and computers are supposed to be popular and most wanted.

listing your website in niche related directory will also help to get traffic to your forum.
as himparkh said quality post and moderation are must consider factors to derive visitors again and again.
