domain parking is good if you have the domain name that has less or more query about.
for example see the site www.iloveyou.net. this is parked domain. people will naturally query iloveyou.com site which currently hosted nowhere, so iloveyou.net is next to query, and clicking on any link on iloveyou.net will generate revenue to the domain owner of iloveyou.net.

but nowadays it is hard to find such domains, as most good domains has been occupied.

As Bhavin said you can't expect good return for domain parking. Traffic is too low unless you have good domain that people mistakenly type. I parked my unused domains at Namedrive. I only received $ 20 for 5 domains after one year. Not enough for renewals.

Google Adsense also provides domain parking. But you should not expect much income from domain parking as it is really difficult. Unless you have bulk domains, you can earn from parking

I would say that domain parking revenue is the money you would earn from the natural traffic to your domain. No effort need be made.

I only recommend it if you have a domain that gets traffic, but you don't know what else to do with it. You can try using Sedo, Parked, Namedrive, etc.

As far as profit goes, since you're not allowed to build links or optimize the domain for the search engines, it usually depends mostly on how much type-in traffic your name gets and what niche it's in. Although, I will say, if your domain was seo'd before it was parked, and still has links from when it was an actual site, there's really nothing that they can say about any traffic that trickles through from those old links.

Still, in my opinion, you'd be much better off creating a simple site and fine-tuning it to earn money.

I let a domain name drop, one day I typed it in and it had been bought again and it was parked on a godaddy page.

It's probably safe to say that what you were seeing was actually the default Godaddy "parked" page, for which Godaddy doesn't share revenue with domain owners. For the type of domain parking that we're talking about in this thread, they offer a different program, called "Cash Parking", for which they charge an entry level fee of $3.99 per month. Which is almost pointless to join, really, when you consider the other free options that I mentioned earlier (Sedo, Parked, Namedrive, etc).
